Ariel Foster, 19, was arrested at her dorm at Lasell University on Wednesday, March 8 after an investigation began on Wednesday, Feb. 22 revealed she scored hundreds of thousands of dollars by jacking up the prices of merchandise and refunding the amount to her credit card, according to the Burlington Police Department.
Foster, who ironically studied criminal justice, made eight such fraudulent transactions over three days at Lovisa, a jewelry store in the Burlington Mall, totaling $547,187 of losses for the store.
A subpoena revealed the refunded amount was sent to her bank account and that she made several extravagant purchases between February 2 and February 22.
Foster, who was named GNAC Rookie of the Week in January, including a $35,000 Tesla, nearly $6,000 at Delta Airlines, more than $20,000 for a hotel in Maui, Hawaii, and nearly $5,000 in Louis Vuitton items.
Police acquired search warrants for Foster's arrest and took her into custody without incident.
Lasell University has removed Foster's information from its 2023 track roster.
The college student posted bail and will likely be arraigned on Friday, March 10 at Woburn District Court.
